Get To Know Lester - A Young, Wise And Humble Collector
Lester is a young collector with a soft spot for Greninja, his all-time favorite Pokémon. Despite the scarcity of these cards in the scene, Lester decided to fully embrace his passion after the recent release of Twilight Masquerade.
As someone who embraces collecting within his means, Lester isn’t looking to build the biggest collection—he’s mainly focused on creating meaningful memories and cherishing each piece he owns.
The Unique Tale Of A Special Rayquaza VMAX
Lester’s most treasured item in his collection is undoubtedly the Rayquaza VMAX from Evolving Skies. This card holds a unique place in his heart, not just for its stunning artwork and powerful presence, but for the incredible journey it undertook to find its way back to him.
He first acquired the Rayquaza VMAX when Evolving Skies was released. After buying three booster boxes, two ETBs, and many build and battle boxes, Lester managed to pull two Sylveon VMAX Alternate Arts and a Dragonite V Alternate Art.
However, he just couldn’t pull the card he desired most.
Determined, Lester decided to buy a raw copy of the Rayquaza VMAX instead. Although the first one he purchased had defects that were intentionally concealed by a dishonest seller, he remained undeterred and bought another copy from a different seller; at a slight premium.
After some negotiation, he secured the card from the seasoned collector who treated him with respect, and even showed him some grails he aspired to own one day.
Believing this card deserved to be slabbed up, Lester sent it to Oxley Grading, where it received a perfect Gem Mint 10 grade.
Be content with what you have. While it's natural to admire someone else's collection, you must find happiness in your own possessions and recognize that there will always be someone who can afford more than you. Never feel disheartened by what you have; it's all part of the journey!
The Collecting Spirit; A New Friendship Forged
Unfortunately, financial needs forced Lester to sell his beloved green dragon.
The regret of parting with this prized possession lingered, and a year later, Lester embarked on a mission to track it down. Through diligent detective work on Carousell and tracing the card’s journey through four different owners, he finally found it.
He reached out to the then-current owner, offering a one-to-one trade and an extra $50 for the hassle. The owner, Eugene, generously waived the additional fee and suggested they take the opportunity to make new friends.
This encounter reminded Lester of the true essence of collecting: the community and the friendships forged along the way. Reflecting on the experience, he realized that if he hadn’t sold the Rayquaza VMAX, he might never have appreciated it as much as he does now.
This journey, filled with ups and downs, is a core memory in Lester’s card collecting adventure and a testament to the deep connections that can be made through a shared passion.
Lending A Helping Hand To @Pokez_Collectibles
On the topic of friendship, another of Lester’s recent memorable stories involves a spontaneous trade with Zach (aka pokez_collectibles).
Lester had listed a coveted Golden Sky Silvery Ocean Lugia PSA 10 for sale, a grail card for Zach. When Zach expressed a strong desire to trade rather than buy, Lester, initially hesitant, considered Zach’s enthusiasm and agreed to the deal.
Despite the disparity in trade values, Lester cherished the opportunity to enrich Zach’s collection journey, prioritizing Zach’s joy over monetary gain.
While young in his collecting journey, Lester demonstrated maturity beyond his years, reinforcing the camaraderie and shared passion that defines what it means to be part of a community of collectors.
Chasing The Elusive XYZ Ash-Greninja Promo
Currently, Lester’s focus is on acquiring a specific card dear to his heart— the TV Tokyo XYZ Lottery Ash Greninja.
As his favorite Pokémon, Greninja reignited Lester’s passion for the series during a pivotal moment in his life. Despite its substantial price tag, this card symbolizes the culmination of his journey to become the King of Greninja collectors.
